What Is Meditation?

Meditation is a useful way to practice finding your calm and clear mind. When a situation arises which brings on stress or disappointment, you are prepared to have a mindful and calm response.


You can be mindful and meditate anywhere you go and at any time. Many people like to meditate in the morning before they start the day. The next slide has one meditation exercise for you to try


You're so busy. When is there extra time to do these mindfulness exercises?


 


Meditate when waiting

Focused breathing is great when you are waiting for a bus, in the supermarket, waiting at the dentist office or for your food in a restaurant. Simply pause now and then throughout the day and consciously perceive that current moment in time.


 


Meditate when going to sleep

Before going to sleep, reflect upon the moment during the day in which you were mindful.


What did you register? The sun on your skin? The breeze in your hair? A leaf falling from a tree?


A body scan, naming all of your body parts in your head when lying down, is an easy and helpful exercise. Doing these exercises will allow you to sleep restfully.
