Abuse in the Community

Children and young people experience insidious forms of violence, exploitation and abuse. It happens in every country, and in the places children should be most protected – their homes, schools and communities.

Violence against children can be physical, emotional or sexual. And in many cases, children suffer at the hands of the people they trust.  Protecting children and young people means protecting their physical and psychosocial needs to safeguard their futures.

You should also be prepared to take appropriate action if you learn (or suspect) that a young person taking part in your program is experiencing physical or emotional abuse at the hands of family, acquaintances or strangers. This includes domestic violence, sexual abuse and any form of neglect.

Through safeguarding we ensure that young people can grow with confidence in safe environments
