A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE EMPATHY MAP


This empathy map is an easy way to get a more in- depth insight into the person or group you are trying to influence. Follow all the steps and fill in the areas according to the audience or person you are trying to influence. It will help you in your process of effectively reaching and persuading them. If you are talking about a group try to describe the most common features and traits that most people from this group will have, hear, watch and see. This will make it a fictive person representing a larger target audience.


  • The person

The person includes all the personal information and facts about a person, such as age, sex, profession, norms and values, family, income, where they live and so on.


  • Hear

What does the person hear? What do their friends say? Who influences their thoughts? Where do they get their knowledge from?


  • Think & Feel

What does the person think and feel? What do they dream about, and what keeps them awake at night? What are their worries and aspirations? What is really important to them? What norms and values do they strive for?


  • See

What does the person see? Which media do they use? Which channels are mostly influencing them? Who do they socialize with? What does their environment look like? What are their hobbies?
